BLUE AMP has been around since 1988. The first years were spent developing high-quality loudspeaker systems and restoring THORENS drives in a very elaborate way. The THORENS theme led to the idea of a high-quality external power supply. The idea of combining this power supply with a phono stage was not a big step – this project was then the beginning of a long development.

The first phono stage, the model 42, has been around since December 1999 – and the very first unit has been working without any problem or failure ever since.

The great motivation for everything, that is created at BLUE AMP, is the desire to listen to music from an early age – as is the case with so many of my colleagues – and the fascination with a simple, timeless exterior – and an interior with the long-lasting quality of a high-quality measuring device and causing a technically skilled person’s eyes to beam – my time at Hewlett Packard Medical has left its lasting mark on this.

A failure rate has not been measurable so far.

All phonos are characterised by an absolute absence of hum and very low noise. Everything suddenly has a tremendous and completely different presence. These two characteristics alone make even old professionals listen reverently.

And all our phonos can / should be operated with shield-free connection cables. These cables can be several metres long without any problems and can also run parallel to mains cables – this allows you to completely decouple the position of your turntable and that of the phono stage – an absolute novelty in record playback.

As a direct consequence, all our phono units come to you without a ground socket. And you don’t have to pay for anything superfluous …

By operating without a shield, the capacitance between the inner strands and a shield is also eliminated, from a purely electrical point of view – this aspect alone has a very great influence on the sound body. Words cannot describe this feature – you have to listen to it.

Tonally neutral – but captivating to its listeners – combined with a holographic sound body – that’s what all our phono stages offer.

You won’t find any glorifying statements about anything with BLUE AMP – you know yourself what and whether you like something. Your right brain, because that’s what this is all about, will whisper to you on its own – to have or not to have. Most of the time it is a question of a few moments – your right brain doesn’t need any longer.

Just as handmade musical instruments have their own character, each BLUE AMP phono offers its own sound cosmos. Which phono is right for you is up to you. The most expensive one is not necessarily the right one for you …

To give you a rough orientation, there is our curve of audiophile happiness – of course also somewhat subjective – but nevertheless quite helpful.

The positions of the points on this curve result from the many comments of our listeners and business colleagues. To your left brain, the individual positions seem enormously important – to the right brain, it doesn’t matter.

But if a colleague, after listening to a piece of music, indignantly remarks

” … now I have known this piece for almost 40 years and now I have constantly noticed details that I have never heard before …”,

then such a statement may also be made by others. – then such a statement may also be confirmed by other listeners – or not.

Just as only a professional musician, together with his professional instrument, can reach our musical souls, a developer of phono stages also needs a qualitatively superior analogue source.

These are the components that have stuck with us after a very long journey through time:

Turntable · stst Motus II DQ · a direct-drive turntable with a non-existent signature. Here, an acoustically dead platter rotates without any extraneous noise. The control system only compensates for minor bearing losses. Stefan Strohmetz is its creator, an absolutely meticulous and uncompromising pedant in his field – in the most positive sense.

The plinth is a BLUE AMP design.

Tonearm – there are many very good tonearms, but the Thiele TA01 ZERO Tracking Error tonearm from Helmut Thiele produces an unmistakable final chord in terms of distortion-free scanning capability and spatial reproduction.

I heard it for the first time in September 2021, without any comparison, and just stood there and was stunned – simply breathtaking.

Its simple design, easy handling and adjustability combined with a manufacturing quality of the highest calibre give you the feeling of security every time you use it – that’s as good as it gets at this point.

MC Generator · ortofon Windfeld Ti. There are a plethora of excellent generators and to make a recommendation here would be tantamount to presumption – but there are products that simply make the musical soul feel cosily at home and any remaining need for a further change is simply filed away in the store of completed projects.

Outer Limit · the stabilising ring from clearaudio. Whereby stabilising ring is a noble understatement – it ensures that the coupling of an LP with the surface of the turntable is perfected in such a way that it corresponds to the effect of a vacuum turntable. Even with heavily warped LPs, there is no more disturbing up and down of the generator – and therefore no unwanted signals in the subsonic range.

When you realise the incredible manufacturing effort involved, the price seems absolutely reasonable, even when measured against its effectiveness.

Its stainless steel surface reacts quite sensitively to fingerprints – that’s why I got into the habit of only handling it with cotton gloves right from the start – I immediately realised the additional advantage in the now absolutely problem-free and much more robust handling of LPs – no more accidental skin contact and thus no more dust-seeking skin grease nests – even a confident wiping away of dust residues is now possible in seconds and done immediately … the small additional effort in handling is quickly adapted and you now handle the precious LP’s in a much more relaxed and even more robust way.
